Apple Expands American Manufacturing Program
Apple has announced four new members of its American Manufacturing Program: TDK, Bosch, Cirrus Logic, and Qnity Electronics. This expansion aims to bring more advanced manufacturing and critical component production to the U.S., aligning with Apple’s $600 billion commitment to U.S. manufacturing and innovation over the next four years.
TDK to Manufacture TMR Sensors in USA
Apple said TDK will manufacture tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) sensors in the U.S. for the first time ever, for use in iPhones shipped around the world. These sensors are crucial for features such as camera stabilization and other functionalities that enhance user experience.
Bosch to Produce Integrated Circuits with TSMC
Apple, Bosch, and TSMC will collaborate to produce integrated circuits (ICs) at a TSMC facility in Washington. These chips are essential for features like Crash Detection, tracking in the Activity app, and elevation measurements across products such as the iPhone and Apple Watch. This partnership underscores the importance of advanced manufacturing capabilities in the U.S.
Cirrus Logic to Develop Advanced Chips with GlobalFoundries
Apple is working with Cirrus Logic and GlobalFoundries to establish new semiconductor process technologies at a GlobalFoundries facility in New York. This collaboration enables Cirrus Logic to develop solutions for components like the advanced chips that power Face ID systems, further enhancing security features in Apple products.
Innovations in Semiconductor Manufacturing
Qnity Electronics and HD MicroSystems will provide cutting-edge materials and technologies essential for semiconductor manufacturing. This collaboration aims to pioneer innovations for high-performance computing and AI, reflecting the growing importance of these areas in technology development.
Apple’s Commitment
“At Apple, we believe in the power of American innovation and manufacturing, and we’re proud to partner with even more companies to produce critical components and cutting-edge materials for our products right here in the U.S.,” said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple.
